Just over a year ago, the research program Stradivarius recruited some 850 participants to see whether the use of acomplia would reduce the development of atherosclerosis — one of the main early symptoms of heart disease which increases blood pressure. Although the results did not show that acomplia could be used to treat atherosclerosis directly, there were other very encouraging signs. Those using acomplia had better levels of high-density cholesterol and safer levels of triglycerides and their blood pressure fell.

This was followed by a research program called ADAGIO-LIPIDS with a separate group of 800 participants. At the end of one year, the group using acomplia showed reduced blood pressure, the level of HDL-cholesterol showed a satisfactory increase and triglycerides fell to safer levels.

In both clinical trials, therefore, acomplia produced lower blood pressure, reduced body weight and improved the levels of cholesterol and triglycerides.

People use the Body Mass Index (BMI) to assess the level of risk because of their weight. A BMI of between 20 and 25 is normal, 25 to 30 is overweight and over 30 is obese. Any score above 40 means a high risk of life-threatening diseases. Put the other way round, any loss of weight reduces the risk of dangerous diseases. Losing just 10% of your current weight significantly reduces the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. The longer you can maintain this loss, the better your chances of a long life.

Doctors are interested in statistics. They have noticed that people who are obese are more likely to have type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, impotence and infertility, suffer heart attacks and have cancers of the colon. The majority of these conditions are life threatening and that is a big deal since obesity is a preventable condition. Like smoking, people can quit eating too much of all the wrong foods and start exercising.

Look in any medical text book and, since books are intended to be helpful, it will tell you obesity is carrying too much extra weight. This means everyone is assumed to have a “healthy” weight. This is an ideal weight. People who carry 20% more than the ideal start to be obese. In the range 20-40%, the obesity is mild. In the range 40-100%, the obesity is moderate, and anything over 100% is severe or morbid obesity, i.e. it is likely to be fatal.

When you input the magic words, “online pharmacy”, Google gives you 28.7 million hits. In reality, there are only several thousand but they all hang out big nets of sites hoping to catch your interest. It is a challenge to know which are reliable. If you were to start working your way through all the sites, one looks just like any other. The good and bad are indistinguishable. This site grew out of a research effort to look behind all the sites to identify the companies involved. As a result of anonymous testing, two online pharmacies are recommended as absolutely reliable out of the thousands. They are Simple OP and Aprixe. Whichever you choose, you are guaranteed great value and excellent service.

Both phentermine and acomplia are appetite suppressants used in combination with a healthy diet and physical exercise to support weight loss. That means they both work on the chemistry of the brain to slow down the message from the stomach that more food is required. Thus, when people are starting a diet and they might find hunger pangs a distraction, both drugs help people to keep up their morale and stay with the diet. The drugs work in different ways. Phentermine works like an amphetamine and there are possible risks of addiction. Acomplia works on the cannabinoid system and regulates addictive behavior like overeating and smoking. In making a decision between the two, note that many internet sites do not sell genuine Phentermine but fakes that have no effect.

There is no difference between the three names. The original brand name registered by the pharmaceutical company Sanofi-Aventis for this weight loss drug was Acomplia. This name is used in Europe and some other parts of the world. Zimulti has been registered as the brand name for use in the US market. In parallel to brand names, the same drug is sold as a generic under the name Rimonabant. All three products are bioequivalent, i.e. the chemical composition, safety record and effectiveness are identical. The only difference lies in the price with the generic version of the drug being cheaper than the branded equivalent.

Type 2 diabetes affects almost 200 million people around the world. The most common cause of this disease is excessive body weight. If this weight can be reduced, it improves the body’s ability to regulate blood glucose levels. In a recent clinical trial of acomplia involving more than one thousand participants in eleven countries, acomplia was found to reduce weight and give significantly better blood glucose control than the placebo. As the body weight decreased, blood pressure levels improved and the chances of heart disease were reduced. Thus, the general health of all participants with diabetes was improved by the combination of acomplia, a healthy diet and some physical exercise.

The world seems to be going downhill fast. There’s bad news on the economy wherever you look. President Obama is signing the Stimulus Package and saying everything will get better, some time in the future. What does all this mean? It means more stress. People no longer have the confidence their jobs will survive. Their homes are at risk because there’s not enough money to keep up the instalments. How will people react? One of the reasons why we eat is fear. We associate food with survival. This happens because of the fight-or-flight reflex. When we anticipate the need to flee, the body releases adrenaline which controls appetite. In some, the result is people stop eating so they remain alert to their surroundings. In others, they eat to build up energy to use if flight becomes necessary. (more…)

The article looks at the confirmation that Sanofi-Aventis is to proceed with its plans to launch a version of acomplia as an aid to smoking cessation.

It’s impossible for anyone on the planet not to be aware that smoking tobacco causes a number of usually fatal diseases. Almost every country has graphic pictures on the packets showing lungs riddled with cancers. The local Surgeon Generals plaster warnings alongside the pictures. Shops are often required to keep their stocks of cigarettes off the shelves so that impulse buying is ruled out. Age limits are more strictly enforced. Bans on smoking in public places are slowly spreading. Tobacco is heavily taxed in many countries so the retail prices are a deterrent. Even in the US, there’s major litigation against the tobacco companies for misdescribing cigarettes as “safe”. The most recent decision of the Supreme Court confirms an action over the advertising of “Lite” cigarettes can proceed. In short, everything that can reasonably be done, is being done to encourage people to quit. But millions of people still smoke. No matter what you say to people, nicotine is a highly addictive substance. (more…)
